Ten Foods to Increase Your Energy

Busy lives require a fully energized body and mind. What we eat can dramatically affect energy levels throughout the day. Here are ten foods you can eat to increase your energy.

1. Spirulina - Packed with 67% protein, Spirulina is a powerful energizer. It’s dark green color reveals the depth of its nutritional gifts. Spirulina increases energy and decreases appetite, making it a perfect food for weight management, detoxification and increased vitality. Mask its strong flavor by blending with fruit juice or smoothies.

2. Raw fruits and vegetables - Cooking these life-giving plants depletes their enzymes, units of life-force energy that sustain and renew the body. For better health, more mental clarity and an abundance of energy, eat a variety of raw fruits and vegetables every day.

3. Maca root - This plant from Peru has been used since ancient times to give vitality and long life. Maca helps the body adapt to stress and supports healthy hormone levels. Maca root powder can be added to smoothies and a variety of raw food recipes to deeply nourish and restore the body and the mind. (more…)

How to Begin Fasting - Part Two

Phase One: 3 Day Juice Fast

Over the course of one to two weeks, gradually reduce the amount of cooked food you eat each day. You may begin by eating only a large raw salad at midday or evening. Next, replace your morning meal with all fruit, followed by the addition of raw vegetables for the remaining meal. You may also drink fresh organic juices.

When you have eaten raw food solely for three days, substitute a glass of freshly juiced organic vegetable juice for the midday salad. The next day, have fruit juice in the morning, drink vegetable juice at midday, and have the raw salad at night. You can also eat a little raw fruit or vegetables between meal times if you feel the need. Finally, replace the evening salad with another glass of freshly juiced vegetable juice.

At this point, you can take three to five glasses of juice daily. It is recommended that the majority of juice be vegetable, with smaller amounts of fruit juice being taken in the morning. Don’t forget to continue drinking pure living water too! You may also drink organic herbal teas. Meditate as much as possible – this is important every day, but especially during any type of fasting.

When you have taken only juices for three days, you may return to a combination of juice and raw foods. If you choose to add cooked food to your diet, make at least 50% of your diet raw, living food. From this time on, choose one day a week as a juice fast day. (more…)

How to Begin Fasting - Part One

Fasting is an advanced spiritual discipline that purifies the physical body, and creates increased awareness of the subtle spiritual force. This spiritual force is always present, though perceived in varying degrees by each person. Through the process of fasting, we re-focus the cellular consciousness of the body, and increase the life-force streaming within us. This increased light-flow brings a feeling of great bliss, lightness, and connection to sacred source. When done in the context of living an enlightened life, fasting speeds spiritual evolution, and ultimately shows us the truth of immortal life. (more…)

Purification as Spiritual Practice

In the western mystical traditions, candidates for initiation must first receive the sacrament of purification before being admitted into an esoteric order for study and practice. In the Egyptian Rosicrucian initiatory schools, purification practices included fasting, ritual bathing and secluded meditation. Mediaeval alchemists and healers focused on cleansing and purifying the internal organs to raise their energetic awareness. Most modern occult rituals also call for the immediate ceremonial purification of new members as they are brought into the temple to take their vows.

In the yoga traditions of the east, purification practices also play a valuable role in preparing oneself to devote body-mind and soul to seek the higher life. These methods include the internal cleansing of all bodily openings where energy flows into and out of the being. Fasting, special herbs and dietary restrictions are used to aid the attainment of more subtle states of consciousness. (more…)

Feeding the Spirit

Food, by which I mean pure and natural plants, was given as a gift to humanity by the one creator. It not only nourishes the body, it is also the supreme medicine for all illness and disease. Awareness of the sacred power of natural living foods is enhanced by consciously connecting with the earth. Yes, it is important to eat the life-giving raw foods, but it is perhaps more important to actually feel your oneness with the earth from where this nourishment comes.

Spend time in nature, away from cities and crowds. Eat outdoors whenever possible. Grow your own food in whatever way you can. Meditate and consciously give thanks for the life-force that you are about to receive before you eat any food. The plants of the earth are divine alchemical agents that transmute sunlight, seed, soil and water into superior human nutrition. When you realize the vast intelligence and perfection that created this food, your relationship with food and with life will become an endless blessing. As you transcend previously held beliefs about food, you begin the journey to true self-knowledge and spiritual awakening. (more…)
